The art of carpet weaving of Esfahan is very unique in that it’s the only illustrated history of Iran through carpets. It shows a recorded story of passion, love, mysticism, and regard for beauty in the lives of these people. It’s an old profession that goes back to the times of Medes and Achaemenids, and even to the pre-bronze age era.
Isfahan is one of the carpet weaving centers that experienced its second period of prosperity during the time (Safavid kingdom, 16th century). This dynasty bestowed a high degree of honor and dignity to the artists who created such beautiful carpets that still today, after many centuries, the eye and the intellect of the observer cannot believe those ornate carpets.
Today, most of the precious old carpets of that period are on display in museums in London, Paris, and other parts of Europe and America.
